Ia 1 lie matter of the application of Wtu Harris for improvement of Oregon City and Linn Mill road : It is ordered that William Harris be be authorized to lay 25,000 feet of plank on the Oregon City and Linn Mill road , ana that he receive $2 per M therefor when so laid. In the matter of highwaymen in Mil waukie and Oswego precincts: It appearing to the Board that numer ous persons have been held up and rob bed on the public highway in Milwaukie and Oswego precincts, and that the said robber or robbers have successfully eluded the officers of the law. It is or dered that the sheriff" be authorized to otter a reward of $100 for the arreBt and conviction of the person or peisons en gaged in said robbery. In the matter of the Moehuke and Benson road in Road District No 18: It is ordered that Supervisor Daniels of Road District, No 18, be and hereby is authorized to appoint Fred Moehnke as Deputy Road Supervisor in said dis trict, said deputy to supervise the grad ing of the Moehnke and Beason road in Bald district. In the matter of the application of William Rider for improvement of Rider Hill: On application of William Rider for the improvement of Rider Hill, It is or dered that Clackamas County furnish 2000 Corduroy, provided the people in the vicinity ot said hill volunteer and lay the same. In the matter of the application of J. H. Honebone for improvement of the Davie road : On application of J H Honebone for improvement of the Davis road, It is or dered that Clackamas County furnish 4000 feet of lumber for said road, pro vided the people in the vicinity furnish an equal amount and lay all. In the matter of report of John Heinz, supervisor of Road District, No 25: It appearing t the Board that this re port was laid ov from the November term for the rei. -mi that said supervisor had not compli -d with the orders of this Board, and now on this date, the Board being fully advised, It is ordered that said report be allowed in full and that the amount of said report paid out of Road Fund be taken from the apportion ment of said district in 1932. In the matter of report of W H Coun sell, supervisor Road District, No 1 : It appearing to the Board that this report was laid over at the November terra for the reason that said supervisor had not complied with the orders of this Board, and now on this date, the L'oird being fully advised, It. is ordered that said report be allowed in full and thai the amount of said report paid out of In the matter of report of Dr. Road Fund be taken from the apportion- on examination of W T Tinsley : Stuart ment of said district in 1902. In the matter of petition of Elizabeth Heitkemper for vacation of part of Third Avenue, Oik Grove: Now comes on to be heard the petition of Iilizabeth Heitkemper, praying to the Board to vacate that part of third Ave nue which lies North of the line between lots 4 and 5 of Tract 94, Oak Grove, as the same is laid out. And it appearing to the Board that a remonstrance to said petition has been filed with this Board, It is therefore ordered that said petition he laid over until Jan. 3rd, 1902, at 10 o'clock a. m. It appearing to the Board that at the November terra thereof 1901, W T Tins ley presented a petition signed by nu merous citizens of Needy asking the Board to grant id to the said W T Tinsley, and it further appearing that an order was made directing said Tinsley to be examined by the County Physician before any aid be granted, and it further appearing that said examination has been made and that said County Physi cian 1ms submitted a report of said ex amination in recommending the said Tinsley to the consideration of this I Bo ird, It is therefore ordered that W T In the matter of care and keeping Abraham Yates, a county charge: It appearing to the Board for the month of December, 1900, E N Foster was entitled to $0 00 for the care and keeping of said county charge and that no warrant has been drawn therefor, and it futther appearing that said E N Foster has drawn $6 00 on account of Baid county charge for the month of Novem ber, 1901, and that be was only entitled to two-thirds of said amount, or $4 00, It is ordered that a warrant be drawn in tavor of E N FoBter for $4 00, and that Abraham Yates receive no further aid from Clackamas County. In the matter of warrants drawn for -county charges : It is ordered that the names of county charges be published each month in con nection with warrants for care and keep ing of said county charges. In the matter of the J R Lewis County Road: It appearing from the petition of A Ilayhurst and the showing made in rela tion thereto that the true location of the J R Lewis County Road where it runs between the Donation Land Claims of O F Beatie and Jeptha May is in doubt and that the fencing along this road be tween these claims is obstructing said road, and this Board being unable to make the proper order in relation thereto without being further informed as to the facts, It is therefore ordered that the County Surveyor be and is hereby di rected to make an examination and a survey of said J R Lewis road where it runs betweon said Donation Land Claims of C F Beatie and Jeptha May and to de termine the township line on the south boundary of Tp 3 S, R 2 E, where it runs between Section 34, in Ip3 S, R 2 E, and Section 3 in Tp 4 S, R 2 K, and to deter mine the South boundary of the C F Beatie D L O, and to determine the Nort h line of the Jeptha May D L C, and to map said claims in relation to said county road and also to mark out on said map or plat the line of the travelled road between these two cbmns and the location of the fences on b"th sides of said road along these two claims, and to show the date of the respective surveys of the township and claim linns; in rela tion to said claim 8 and fo bri'ir friM re port or plat or map to this B 'rd before the n 'xt session thereof, and it is so ordered. of Tinsley be allowed the sum of month from December 1st, 1901. to per AWAVVVVWVWVWAVA LOCAL SUMMARY BPme nr nrmr wrvv In the matter of petition for incorpo ration of Milwaukie. Now comes on to be heard petition signed by 44 residents of Milwaukie, asking the board to incorporate as a municipal corporation under the pro visions of the general laws of the State of Oregon, part of the Donation Land Claim of Lot Whitcomb, William Meek, Hector Campbell, Daniel Hathway and Joseph Kellogg in Township one south, range one and two east. And it appearing to the Board hat a remonstrance agaiust said petition has been filed with this Board. It is there lore ordered that said petition be laid over until January 3rd, 1902, at 10 o'clock. In the matter of application of J J Mallatt for culvert lumber. It is ordered that J J Mallatt be allowed lumber for building culverts on the Clarks road. In the matter of the petitiou of 0 S Philps and wife. Now comes W fl. Mattoon and pre sents to the Board a petition signed by 13 citizena of his neighborhood asking the board to grant assistance to Mr and Mrs Philps, and the board being fully advised, It is ordered that O 8 Philps, and wife have aid in the sum of $5 per month from November 1, 1901 and that warrant be drawn in favor of W H Mattoon. In the matter of improvement of the Barlow and CaBcade road : On application F E Shorgle, It is ordered that Clackamas county furnish 2000 corduroy for the Barlow and Cas cade road. Olympia, the Washington pUte capitol, after a lin gering illness of six days. In the morn ing he began to sink and passed into a comatose statu. He erew steadily weaker through the entire day. The coliaps3 was a surprise to his family and physician, as he had rested better dur ing the preyious night. Mr. Rogers end the Governor's two daughters, Mrs. Blackmah and Miss Helen Rogers were at hiB bedside all day. The Governor's son, Edwin Rogers, who is in London, was cabled, and F. J. Ropers, the Stn ford professor, and A. C. Rogers, of Santa Barbara, were sent for. Gover nor Rogers died. Governor Rogers will be succeeded by Lieutenant-Governor McBride, who was elected on the re publican ticket, John It. Rogers was a native of Maine, born in 1834, and from an obscure drugitist at Puyall lp, rose to be governor of Washington. In Kansas he engaged in farming, and also con ducted f ding store. He was active in organizing the farmers' alliance, and was editor rf the Kansas Commoner for eevsral years at Wichita, during which time he held several minor offices. He was the author of several works on po litical economv, written in an incisive style. He was elected as a member of the Washington legislature In 1894 as a pooulist. In the memorable three-cornered convention held at Ellenshurg in August,- 1890, he was nomiuated for governor on the fusion ticket, alter one of the greatest political struggles in the history of the state. He was elected by a largo majority, defeating P. B. Sullivan, the republican nominee, of Tacoma. In September, 1900, he was renominated by the fusiouidts at Seat tle, and re-elected by 2000 majority , de feating State Senator J. M. Frink. Governor Rogers was not what would be called a politician, but of the Bevn times he was a candidate for oflloe, le was never defeated. He was upright and honest, and no matter whom he crossed, he spoke his sentiments, and put them into practica as far as was in his power. He was a true friend, but a bitter political foe. He instituted many reforms during his term of office, and was generally regarded as a successful governo-. Saturday, December 28.
